SPECIAL BOARD OF SUPERVISORS’ MEETING

February 11, 2020

The February 11, 2020 Special Board of Supervisors’ Meeting was called to order by Chairman Jerry Pohlman at 4:30PM at the Crane Lake Chapel Fellowship Hall with the Pledge of Allegiance recited by those in attendance including: Guest Speakers S.E.H. Associate/Sr. Airport Planner Kaci Nowicki and St. Louis County Representative Brian Fritsinger; Supervisors Kara Knutson and Jerry Pohlman; Treasurer Traci Bak; Clerk Jo Ann Pohlman and 4 members of the community. 

Purpose of Meeting:  Chairman Jerry explained the purpose of the meeting was to update the community on the Crane Lake Seaplane Base Feasibility Study.  He then introduced guest speakers Kaci Nowicki of S.E.H and Brian Fritsinger of St. Louis County, and turned the meeting over to them.

Kaci distributed the following items to the Board and community members:  Meeting Agenda, a handout to correspond to the PowerPoint presentation and the Feasibility Study for the Crane Lake Seaplane Base to-date.

Kaci walked through the presentation covering an inventory of Scott’s Seaplane Base reviewing the use and facility overview, survey results, and airport access.  Next was the Forecasts of existing activity levels and future forecasted activity levels, type of aircraft, etc.

The next steps will be Facility Requirements – licensing, MN State Aviation System Plan recommendations, maintenance needs, improvement needs, public access and incorporating AWOS (weather) and helipad needs (now being addressed by the CLVFD).  Other next steps would be a capital improvement plan; implementation including project costs and funding sources; and ownership, governance and management options.

The next planned Feasibility Update will be on April 14th, at 4:00PM at the Crane Lake Chapel Fellowship Hall.  A representative from MN DOT will be invited to attend also.

Chairman Jerry thanked Kaci and Brian for the presentation, as did the rest of the community members present.

FYI:  The current airport, owned by Scott’s, was licensed in 1942, began fueling in 1948 and customs was added in 1953.

The concept of the Township becoming an airport owner was presented to the Township by Darrell and Carole Scott after they had received questions from their customers about future plans for a continued airport in Crane Lake.
