NEW BUSINESS

Heart of the Continent Partnership Conference Report:  Butch reported that he attended the Heart of the Continent Partnership’s 2011 International Community Congress:  Balancing Nature and Commerce in Communities that Neighbor Public Lands conference that was held in Thunder Bay, Ontario and Grand Portage, MN as a member of Destination Voyageurs National Park (DVNP).   The goal of the International Community Congress is to build stronger economic, social and environmental connections between communities and their neighboring public lands for mutual benefit.  A result of the conference is to develop an action plan for a specific project to push the purpose of DVNP forward and beyond what the local communities are able to do on their own.  The DVNP currently has a website that connects with community sites that has shown good results. The DVNP team’s plan of action as a result of the conference is to further develop its marketing plan.  The team will be reviewing and updating marketing ideas that were shared between partners dating back to the inception of DVNP in 2008.  The DVNP board is working with the six gateway communities and other stakeholders to accomplish this by the end of 2012.  They plan to host another “Think Tank” to gather more input from interested parties in the spring of 2012.  Stay tuned. The web address for DVNP’s portal site is www.dvnpmn.com.
