BOARD OF APPEAL & EQUALIZATION MEETING

April 20, 2011

 

The April 20, 2011 Board of Appeal and Equalization Meeting of the Town of Crane Lake was called to order by Chairman Jerry Pohlman at 2:05PM at the Crane Lake Chapel Fellowship Hall with the Pledge of Allegiance recited by those in attendance including:  Supervisors Jerry Pohlman, Jim Janssen and Butch Eggen, Treasurer Terrie Hoff, Clerk Jo Ann Pohlman, Township Assessor Jan Jackson & Ron Olsen, St. Louis County Representative Patrick Orent and 5 members of the community.

 

Chairman Jerry explained the purpose of the meeting and introduced Township Assessor Jan Jackson & Ron Olsen, and St. Louis County Representative Patrick Orent.

 

Robert Bowers, Parcel Code 308-0140-00060 appealed valuation of property.  A motion was made by Butch, supported by Jerry, to reduce the valuation from $486,300 to $301,900, a reduction of $184,400, as recommended by Ms. Jackson and Mr. Orent, removing additional factors and structure that was removed from the parcel.  All voted in favor and the motion carried.  Ms. Jackson stated that a two-year abatement would be provided for the removed structure.

 

Deena Congdon, Parcel Code 308-0080-00406 appealed valuation of property.  A motion was made by Jerry, supported by Butch, to reduce the valuation on the property from $456,000 to $417,200, a reduction of $38,800, as recommended by Ms. Jackson and Mr. Orent, bringing the valuation in line with the previous year’s valuation.  All voted in favor and the motion carried.

 

Deena Congdon,  Parcel Code 308-0010-00240 appealed valuation of property.  A motion was made by Butch, supported by Jerry, that the valuation remain the same as it is comparable to other non- lakeshore property in the area.  All voted in favor and the motion carried.

 

Deena Congdon,  Parcel Code 308-0030-02030 appealed valuation of property.  A motion was made by Butch, supported by Jerry, that the valuation remain the same as it is comparable to other non- lakeshore property in the area.  All voted in favor and the motion carried.

 

Deena Congdon, Parcel Code 308-0030-03180 appealed valuation of property.  A motion was made by Jerry, supported by Butch, to reduce the valuation from $21,600 to $19,900, a reduction of $1,700, at the recommendation of Ms. Jackson and Mr. Orent, to bring the valuation in line with the previous year.  Jerry and Butch voted in favor, Jim abstained and the motion carried.

 

Deena Congdon, Parcel Code 308-0030-03603 appealed valuation of property.  A motion was made by Jim, supported by Jerry, that the valuation remain the same as it is comparable to other non-lakeshore property in the area.  All voted in favor and the motion carried.

 

Deena Congdon,  Parcel Code 308-0080-00409 appealed valuation of property.  A motion was made by Butch, supported by Jerry, that the valuation remain the same as it is comparable to other non-lakeshore property in the area.  All voted in favor and the motion carried.

 

Jeffrey & Lori Sanborn,  Parcel Code 308-0030-03300 appealed valuation of property.  A motion was made by Jim, supported by Butch, to reduce the valuation from $479,300 to $211,850, a reduction of $267,450, at the recommendation of Ms. Jackson and Mr. Orent, adjusting the frontage valuation due to depth of lot and correcting the lakeshore grading.  All voted in favor and the motion carried.

 

Jeffrey & Lori Sanborn,  Parcel Code 308-0030-03410 appealed valuation of property.  A motion was made by Butch, supported by Jerry, that the valuation remain the same.  All voted in favor and the motion carried.

Jeffrey & Lori Sanborn,  Parcel Code 308-0140-00090 appealed valuation of property.  A motion was made by Butch, supported by Jim, to reduce the valuation from $62,200 to $23,600 a reduction of $38,600, at the recommendation of Ms. Jackson and Mr. Orent, changing property from fair to poor and to bring the valuation in line with the previous year.  All voted in favor and the motion carried.

 

Jeffrey & Lori Sanborn,  Parcel Code 308-0030-03283 appealed valuation of property.  A motion was made by Butch, supported by Jerry, to reduce the valuation from $536,800 to $489,100, a reduction of $47,700, at the recommendation of Ms. Jackson and Mr. Orent, applying a residential schedule rather than a resort schedule.  All voted in favor and the motion carried.

 

Jeffrey & Lori Sanborn,  Parcel Code 308-0240-00111 appealed valuation of property.  A motion was made by Butch, supported by Jerry, to change property classification from Residential Homestead to Vacant Land at the recommendation of Ms. Jackson and Mr. Orent; with the valuation remaining the same.  All voted in favor and the motion carried.

 

Michael Carlson,  Parcel Code 308-0070-00170 appealed valuation of property.  A motion was made by Jerry, supported by Jim, that the valuation remain the same as it is comparable to others in the area using the residential schedule.  All voted in favor and the motion carried. Property had changed from resort to residential property.

 

Lewis & Charlotte Bystrom,  Parcel Code 308-0240-00085 appealed valuation of property.  A motion was made by Jim, supported by Butch, to reduce the valuation from $465,800 to $376,700, a reduction of $89,100, as recommended by Ms. Jackson and Mr. Orent, to align with other comparable properties.  All voted in favor and the motion carried.

 

Lewis & Charlotte Bystrom,  Parcel Code 308-0030-03301 appealed valuation of property.  A motion was made by Butch, supported by Jim, that the valuation remain the same as it is comparable to others in the area and was decreased with new schedule.  All voted in favor and the motion carried.

 

Kim Reed, Parcel Code 308-0131-00130 appealed valuation of property (Frances Aspnes property).  A motion was made by Butch, supported by Jerry, that the valuation remain the same as it is comparable to others in the area.  All voted in favor and the motion carried.

 

No list of Crane Lake Building Permits 2011 Assessment was presented for Board consideration.
