TOWN OF CRANE LAKE

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS’ MEETING

May 14, 2019

The May 14, 2019 Board of Supervisors’ Meeting was called to order by Chairman Jerry Pohlman at 7:30PM at the Crane Lake Chapel Fellowship Hall with the Pledge of Allegiance recited by those in attendance including: Supervisors Katie Congdon, Jim Janssen & Jerry Pohlman; Treasurer Traci Bak; Clerk Jo Ann Pohlman; and 2 members of the community. 

BUSINESS

Additions to the Agenda:  There were none.

Minutes – A motion was made by Katie, supported by Jerry, to approve the minutes of the 4/9/19 Board of Supervisors’ Meeting and the 4/17/19 Board of Appeals Meeting.  All voted in favor and the motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report –The April Cash Balances were read and the bills were presented as follows: Timberjay – $89.10; MN Assn. of Twps. – $763.00; Lutefisk Tech. – $33.90; Costin Group – $1,250.00; Lake Country Power – $146.56; St. Louis County Auditor – $1,762.67; CLVTB – $735.77; and Payroll – $717.57.  A motion was made by Jim, supported by Katie, to approve the Treasurer’s Report as read and the payment of bills.  All voted in favor and the motion carried. 

The Clerk presented the correspondence.  The correspondence was received as read and will be placed on file and acted upon as required.

OLD BUSINESS

Costin Group Report:  There was none.

VNP-Visitor Center/Campsite:   Committee Report: Deena Congdon suggested that the Township move forward with renting RV sites.  Insurance requirements will be looked into. 

Grounds Clean-up:  The Board would like Randy Clemmer to provide lawn service for the Township.  He will be asked for a quote on providing lawn service. 

Docks:  Bruce Beste will look into what repair is needed.  Signs will be made to inquiry about dock use.

CIC Covenants/Unit 13:  Butch Eggen and Deena Congdon have agreed to serve on the CIC Committee along with Jerry.

ATV Use:  Bruce Beste reported that construction preparation at the bridge site has begun with a planned completion date of September 6th.  The bridge has been ordered and the IRRRB has made a down payment.  The club has received permission to cut trees along the trail between Crane Lake and the falls.  There will probably be no bond funding for the project this year.  There are bills in both the House and the Senate for funding.

Trails Report:  The environmental review for the Mukooda Lake Development has been completed.   

Land Use Project:  Because the community is so involved in developing the Visitor Center/Campground area, the development of the Land Exchange area will be addressed later on.

IRRRB Voyageur Statue Work:  The Pre-Application for the grant has been approved.  The project is out for bid with bids being due soon.

Scott’s Seaplane Base:  The signed copy of the feasibility grant was received.  Project steps and logistics will be discussed next week. 

Credit Card for Township:  There was no action.

Special Assessments – Visitor Center Property:  The CLWSD did not feel the Special Assessments attached to the property purchased from Mr. Braaten for the Visitor Center/Campground could be forgiven unless the Township could come up with a compelling reason to do so.  The Township will not pursue.

NEW BUSINESS

Tobacco License Approval:  A motion was made by Katie, supported by Jim, to adopt Resolution #2019-07 approving issuance of a tobacco products license for Scotts of Crane Lake d/b/a/ Scotts Seaplane Base, Store & Service for the year ending the 31st day of December 2019.  All voted in favor and the motion carried.

Other New Business: Bruce Beste asked about the money budgeted for the flowers.  Traci will talk to Jody Driggs about costs for the purchase of the flowers.

Comments from Officers:  Jim thanked Bruce and others for mowing the former Borderland property.

Public Comments:  There were none.

Next Meeting:   Board of Supervisors’ Meeting – June 11, 2019 – 7:30PM, Fellowship Hall

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:00PM.
