TOWN OF CRANELAKE
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS’ MEETING
September 10, 2013
The September 10, 2013 Board of Supervisors’ Meeting was called to order by Vice-Chairman Jim Janssen at 7:35PM at the Crane Lake Volunteer Fire Department Hall with the Pledge of Allegiance recited by those in attendance including: Supervisors Butch Eggen and Jim Janssen, Treasurer Shannon Bibeau, and Clerk Jo Ann Pohlman. Supervisor Jerry Pohlman was absent.
BUSINESS
Additions to the Agenda: There were none.
Minutes – A motion was made Butch, supported by Jim, to approve the minutes of the 8/13/2013 Board of Supervisors’ Meeting. All voted in favor and the motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report – Shannon read the August Cash Balances and presented the bills as follows: Office of the State Auditor – $300.00; St. Louis County Auditor – $56.00; CLVTB – $19,041.64; Fryberger, Buchanan – $840.00; and Payroll – $669.25. All voted in favor and the motion carried.
The Clerk presented the correspondence. The correspondence was received as read and will be placed on file and acted upon as required.
OLD BUSINESS
Land Exchange/Community Property Project: Butch reported that the Notice to Exchange was signed by the US Forest Service Superintendent. The notice will be published in the Duluth News Herald advising that there is a 60 day comment period. The easements for the hiking trail and snowmobile trail should be received soon. The next step is to get the lease agreement with Frontier completed. The Township is still hopeful that the land exchange will be completed by the end of this year
Jacque Eggen Memorial Fund: There was no update.
Crane Lake Road Repair: The Board requested that the Clerk send a copy of the Township’s letter of 8/13/13 to County Commissioner Forsman to Leiding and Portage Townships.
Planning Commission: The Board discussed the concept of forming a planning commission for the Town of Crane Lake.
Sewer Service Expansions: The Board agreed that a member of the Township Board should begin attending the CLWSD meetings with reports provided when appropriate. The Board also agreed to send a letter to Chairman Rob Scott advising of the Board’s decision and requesting that the CLWSD continue with their reports to the Township.
NEW BUSINESS
Levy sent to County: The proposed 2013, payable 2014 levy was mailed to St. Louis County September 1, 2013. The levy will be reviewed in December.
Other New Business: There was none.
Comments from Officers: Jo Ann mentioned that the Community Action Plan should be reviewed. Butch said that there is a project going on with the Destinations Voyageurs National Park group. It is called Minnesota Sustainable Tourism Assessment for small communities. The project is a collaboration of the University of MN Tourism Center, Regional Sustainable Development Partnerships and Center for Community Vitality. The Crane Lake community resources is part of the project along with other gateway communities around VNP. The project findings may have some good info as we plan for our next community Action Plan. The report will be done by years end. Butch also thanked the Voyageur Days Committee for their hard work at the boat races in August and the Labor Day events.
