BUSINESS
Chairman Jim Jannsen explained that the purpose of the Special Board of Supervisors’ Meeting was to review the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR) requirements for acknowledging and accepting Minnesota’s Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund (ENRTF) funding support. Jim then introduced Township Consultant Gary Cerkvenik to those present and turned the meeting over to him.
Gary explained that the $950,000 request from the LCCMR by the Town of Crane Lake would come from lottery and tobacco monies. The purpose of the Town’s request is to acquire funding for the purchase of the Braaten property to provide a location for a possible VNP visitor center. The Township has received support for the property purchase from the VNP, the VNPA and others. The application work plan would need to be filed in mid-September, go through the legislative process and be approved by Governor Dayton. If approval is received, the money would be available 7/1/17.
The group discussed what the Township should do if the grant was received. The Township would need to secure VNP commitment to a visitor center at that location, negotiate the purchase price with Mr. Braaten, determine additional uses for the property, decide what additional funding would be needed and what professionals would be needed to assist the Township with property development.
Jim thanked Gary for attending the meeting and for all that he does for the community.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:15PM.
Jo Ann Pohlman, Clerk Jim Janssen, Chairman
