OLD BUSINESS
Land Exchange/Community Property Project: Ruth L. Carlson reported that the corrections on the few easements which require being changed since the exchange of property and an error on one easement listing the incorrect road number has not been completed. All are frustrated with the length of time this is taking.
Jacque Eggen Memorial Fund: There was no report.
Costin Group Report: Gary Cerkvenik reported that he met in International Falls with Mike Ward to push for the park presence in Crane Lake. Gary informed Mike Ward that we are going to meet with Rep. Nolan to seek additional funding. Gary met with Jeff Anderson of Rep. Nolan’s staff to discuss funding for a visitor center. Gary requested a meeting with Township officials and Rep. Nolan.
Crane Lake Road Repair: Deena Congdon reported that she understood that 95% of the shoulder width on the road between Orr and Crane Lake would be 6’ on either side. The shoulder would be narrower in areas with rock structure close to the road.
VNP-Visitor Center/Campsite: The Board did not feel that a committee to work with the VNP to achieve the goal of a visitor center in Crane Lake was necessary at this time.
Frontier Internet: There was nothing new to report.
ATV Use on Vermilion Falls Road: Committee Chairman Bruce Beste reported that there would be a club meeting on Wednesday, August 12 at the Crane Lake Bar & Grill. The newly formed club, with upward of 300 members, will have more discussions with the USFS. The club met with Beatty Township and will present to them at their September meeting requests to support permitting certain county roads for ATV travel. Crane Lake, Portage, Camp 5, and Leiding Townships have all supported letters to St Louis County. St. Louis County is now acting on the club’s proposed trails system plan. The US Forest Service has invited the club to partner with them on signs and brushing trails already designated as open along the 491 and 203 roads. They are hoping to begin this partnership by the end of this month. The club initiated a conversation in regards to tax forfeited land being available to the club for purposes of training youth for ATV Safety Certification, and possible club social area (picnic area).
