TOWN OF CRANELAKE

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS’ MEETING

June 11, 2013

 

The June 11, 2013 Board of Supervisors’ Meeting was called to order by Chairman Jerry Pohlman at 7:35PM at the Crane Lake Chapel Fellowship Hall with the Pledge of Allegiance recited by those in attendance including:  Supervisors Butch Eggen and Jerry Pohlman, Treasurer Ruth L. Carlson, and Clerk Jo Ann Pohlman.  Supervisor Jim Janssen arrived during Correspondence.

 

 

BUSINESS

 

Additions to the Agenda:  Condition of the Crane Lake Road was added to New Business.

 

Minutes – A motion was made by Jerry, supported by Butch, to approve the minutes of the 5/14/2013 Board of Supervisors’ Meeting and 5/20/13 Board of Appeal Meeting.  All voted in favor and the motion carried.

 

Treasurer’s Report – Ruth read the May Cash Balances and presented the bills as follows:  Shirley Sanborn – $105.09; IRS – $46.42; MATA – $988.00; Lutefisk Technologies – $2,914.12; and Payroll – $591.26.  A motion was made by Butch, supported by Jerry, to approve the Treasurer’s Report as read and the payment of bills.  All voted in favor and the motion carried.

 

The Clerk presented the correspondence.  The correspondence was received as read and will be placed on file and acted upon as required.

 

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

Land Exchange/Community Property Project: Ruth L. Carlson reported that the Land Exchange is moving along and should be completed in the final quarter of this year, 2013.  The Corporation met on June 6th to review the property values and monetary values provided by the USFS survey.  The forms for easements are in place.  An attorney has been hired to resolve the mineral rights issue.

 

CLWSD Report:  Rob Scott submitted the following:  The treatment plant is operating within standards and all previous suspended solids issues have been corrected.  The District received grant funds that will enable the District to do feasibility studies to expand the sewer system down the Handberg Road and to Bear Island.  An arbitrator has been selected to resolve the issue between the CLWSD and RLK.  A date will be selected to accommodate the arbitrator’s schedule.  The District continues to work with Voyageur Lakes Development on their development plans.  No rate change decisions have been made pending expansion progress.

 

Assessor Status Report:  Butch has been researching the Township’s options.

 

Jacque Eggen Memorial Fund:  There was no update.

 

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

Board of Appeal Training:  A motion was made by Jerry, supported by Jim, to approve mileage and meeting expenses for those attending training in Cotton on October 22nd.  All voted in favor and the motion carried.

 

MAT Summer Short Course:  A motion was made by Jim, supported by Butch, to approve mileage and meeting expenses for those wishing to attend the June 27th training in Carlton.  All voted in favor and the motion carried.

 

Crane Lake Road:  Leiding Township Chairman Pete Glowaski contacted Ruth regarding the condition of the road between Orr and Crane Lake.  He suggested that a letter from Leiding, Portage and Crane Lake Townships be written to legislators requesting repair of the road.  The Board agreed and Ruth will communicate with Pete Glowaski.

 

Jim and the Clerk are looking into what must be done for the July 4th fireworks.

Voyageur Days Donation:  A motion was made by Jerry, supported by Jim, to donate an additional $2,500 contingent upon any monetary amount and activity limitations that may be involved.  All voted in favor and the motion carried.

 

Other New Business:  There was none.

Comments from Officers: Ruth commented that with the Land Exchange finally going through questions were being asked about a future plan.

 

PUBLIC COMMENTS – There were none.
