TOWN OF CRANE LAKE
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS’ MEETING
May 8, 2018
The May 8, 2018 Board of Supervisors’ Meeting was called to order by Chairman Jerry Pohlman at 7:30PM at the Crane Lake Chapel Fellowship Hall with the Pledge of Allegiance recited by those in attendance including: Supervisors Butch Eggen, Jim Janssen and Jerry Pohlman; Treasurer Traci Bak; Clerk Jo Ann Pohlman; and 9 members of the community.
BUSINESS
Additions to the Agenda: There were none.
Minutes – A motion was made by Jim, supported by Butch, to approve the minutes of the 4/10/18 Board of Supervisors’ Meeting and the 4/17/18 Board of Appeal & Equalization Meeting. All voted in favor and the motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report –The April Cash Balances were read and the bills were presented as follows: Costin Group – $1,250.00; Lake Country Power – $146.56; Cook News-Herald – $105.00; MATA – $813.00; Couri & Ruppe – $380.00; CLVTB – $688.61; St. Louis County Auditor – $9,762.00; and Payroll – $930.45. A motion was made by Butch, supported by Jim, to approve the Treasurer’s Report as read and the payment of bills. All voted in favor and the motion carried.
The Clerk presented the correspondence. The correspondence was received as read and will be placed on file and acted upon as required.
OLD BUSINESS
Jacque Eggen Memorial Fund: Butch spoke to Mark Anderson about leveling and adding sandy loam to the designated area while doing work on the opposite side of the road.
Costin Group Report: Gary Cerkvenik joined the meeting via telephone later on in the meeting advising that funding requests for the Visitor Center/Campground were being pursued.
VNP-Visitor Center/Campsite:
- Grounds Cleanup: The DNR is willing to assist with the planned burn of the area along the Crane Lake Road. A time is tentatively set for next week, weather permitting. Randy Clemmer will be asked to mow the property this summer.
- Docks: The group discussed removal and storage of some of the docks and repairing a few to remain in the water.
- Student Feasibility Study: The group discussed and tabled until later in the meeting.
- CIC Covenants/Unit 13: The Township attorney continues to work on the CIC.
.ATV Use: Bruce Beste reported that they have funding requests being considered by the Legislature. Alternative funding sources are being researched for the trail beyond Gold Coast Road. The picnic area by Vermilion Falls will be updated with new tables being added. The Annual Meeting will be held at Trails End tomorrow evening beginning at 6:30PM.
Trails Report: There was no report.
Land Use Project: Because the community is so involved in developing the Visitor Center/Campground area, the development of the Land Exchange area will be addressed later on.
IRRRB Voyageur Statue Work: Additional funding for the project is being requested.
Spring Cleanup Day: Individuals will clean up the trash along the road sides as has been done in the past few years.
Property Taxes: A motion was made by Jerry, supported by Jim, to pay the 1st half property taxes on the newly purchased Township property. All voted in favor and the motion carried.

OLD BUSINESS (Cont.)
VNP-Visitor Center/Campsite: Student Feasibility Study: Mr. Cerkvenik was consulted on passing a resolution authorizing the application to the CDBG for funding for a student to conduct an economic feasibility study of the proposed Visitor Center and Campground. Mr. Cerkvenik advised against it suggesting that the VNP could provide the requested additional funding, if they felt a feasibility study was necessary. Holly Larson will be notified.
NEW BUSINESS – There was none.
Other New Business: The CLVTB has donated $500.00 to the Driggs family for the hanging flower baskets on the light posts throughout town and requested that the Township do the same. A motion was made by Jim, supported by Jerry, to donate $500.00 to the Driggs family for the hanging flower baskets. All voted in favor and the motion carried.
Comments from Officers: There were no comments.
Public Comments: Bruce Beste thanked the Board for the flower basket donation.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:38PM.
