TOWN OF CRANE LAKE

BOARD OF APPEAL & EQUALIZATION MEETING

April 29, 2021

 

 

The April 29, 2021 Board of Appeal and Equalization Meeting of the Town of Crane Lake was called to order by Chairman Jerry Pohlman at 1:00PM at the Crane Lake Chapel Fellowship Hall with the Pledge of Allegiance recited by those in attendance including:  Supervisors Kara Knutson, Jim Janssen (via Zoom), and Jerry Pohlman; Clerk Jo Ann Pohlman; and two appellants. St. Louis County Assessors Beth Sokoloski and Ron Bushbaum attended via Zoom.

Treasurer Traci Bak was absent.

 

The purpose of the meeting is to determine whether property in the jurisdiction has been properly valued and classified by the assessor.  Beth Sokoloski further explained the meeting purpose and procedure.

 

Dawson, Ejay Etux, Parcel Code 308-0080-00407.  Appealed the valuation of total property due to location next to a business.  A motion was made by Jerry, supported by Jim, to follow County recommendation to reduce the valuation of the property by 10% to include the attached garage in total property valuation considering location next to a commercial operation reducing building valuation from $614,400 to $606,100 – a reduction of $8,300.  All voted in favor and the motion carried.

 

Bonnie Caughey, Parcel Code 308-0060-00280.  Valuation of the inside condition of home was appealed.  A motion was made by Jim, supported by Jerry, to follow County recommendation to decrease the value of the building due to interior condition and increase the valuation of the land per survey from $254,000 to $233,600 – a reduction of $20,400.   All voted in favor and the motion carried.

 

Back Road Consulting LLC (Gaume), Parcel Code 308-0030-03355.  Appealed classification.  There was no Board action.  A change to Homestead Classification was made at the County level.

 

Michael & Linda Lang, Parcel Code 308-0240-00030 & 00045.  Appealed valuation.  A motion was made by Jerry, supported by Jim, to follow County recommendation that the valuation remain the same as valuations have gone up throughout the area.  All voted in favor and the motion carried.

 

 

There were no other appeals.

 

The Board of Appeal and Equalization Meeting was adjourned at 2:00PM.
