TOWN OF CRANE LAKE

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS’ MEETING

March 14, 2017

 

 

The March 14, 2017 Board of Supervisors’ Meeting was called to order by Vice-Chairman Jerry Pohlman at 9:00PM at the Crane Lake Chapel Fellowship Hall with  those in attendance including: Supervisors Butch Eggen, and Jerry Pohlman; Treasurer Traci Bak; Clerk Jo Ann Pohlman and 9 members of the community.

 

 

BUSINESS

 

Additions to the Agenda:  Legal & Spring Short Courses and Cook-Orr Hospital District were added to New Business

 

Minutes – A motion was made by Butch, supported by Jerry, to approve the minutes of the 2/21/2017 Board of Supervisors’ Meeting and the Special Board of Supervisors’ Meeting of 3/7/17.   All voted in favor and the motion carried.

 

Treasurer’s Report –The February Cash Balances were read and the bills were presented as follows:  Costin Group – $1,485.40; CLVTB – $687.89; and Payroll – $914.30.  A motion was made by Jerry, supported by Butch, to approve the Treasurer’s Report as read and the payment of bills.  All voted in favor and the motion carried.

 

The Clerk presented the correspondence.  The correspondence was received as read and will be placed on file and acted upon as required.

 

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

Jacque Eggen Memorial Fund:  There was no report.

 

Costin Group Report:  There was no report.

 

VNP-Visitor Center/Campsite:  The Special Board of Supervisors’ Meeting of 3/7/17 provided the Board with information on the National Park Service Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance program (RTCA).  The program supports successful partnerships with communities across America in achieving their conservation and outdoor recreation visions.  The Board is currently working on the Application for RTCA assistance with the visitor center project.  Deena Congdon requested that the Letter of Intent with Bob Braaten be renewed.  A motion was made by Jerry, supported by Butch, to extend the Letter of Intent to purchase the Braaten property, with the same terms, for one year.  All voted in favor and the motion carried.

 

Frontier Internet:  Butch reported that the Township may wait longer than expected for Verizon service due to a pending merger.  They do not want to spend money on equipment at this time.  AT&T is upgrading the equipment on the tower.

 

ATV Use:  Bruce Beste reported that there is an opportunity to participate in brushing at Elephant Lake on 3/18/17.  The Club is sponsoring a ride on Echo Trail in April and will meet up with the Ely Club.  The Quad Cities Club has also been invited.

 

Trails Report:  There was no report.

 

Lodging Tax Follow-Up Letter:  A draft letter to delinquent rental properties has been reviewed by the Board members and will be mailed.

 

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

Street Lighting & Safety:  Art Driggs plans to have a presentation prepared for the April meeting.

NEW BUSINESS (Cont.)

 

“Caps On” Initiative:  An email was received from the Minnesota Twins Baseball Club requesting permission to showcase the Voyageur statue alongside other iconic landmarks in their “Caps On” promotion and possibly other promotional materials.  The CLVTB is currently working on this.

 

Land Use Project:  The Board discussed approaches to use of the land recently acquired through the Land Exchange.  Butch will contact the ARDC for some direction.

 

Legal and Spring Short Courses:  A motion was made by Jerry, supported by Butch, to approve expenditures for anyone wishing to attend either course.  All voted in favor and the motion carried.

 

Cook-Orr Hospital District Support:  A motion was made by Butch, supported by Jerry, to provide a letter of support to the Hospital District related to their request that the Minnesota State Legislature amend the enabling legislation to require all residents of the original Hospital District be assessed their fair share of the Hospital District’s annual Levy with copies of the letter being sent to Senator Bakk and Representatives Metsa and Ecklund.  All voted in favor and the motion carried.

 

Comments from Officers:  Butch thanked everyone for attending the Annual meeting and staying on for the Board Meeting.  Jerry echoed Butch’s comment.

 

Public Comments:  Lori Sanborn said it was a nice meeting.
