BOARD OF SUPERVISORS’ MEETING

November 12, 2019

The November 12, 2019 Board of Supervisors’ Meeting was called to order by Chairman Jerry Pohlman at 5:35PM at the Crane Lake Chapel Fellowship Hall with the Pledge of Allegiance recited by those in attendance including: Supervisors Jim Janssen & Jerry Pohlman; Treasurer Traci Bak; Clerk Jo Ann Pohlman; and 2 members of the community. 

BUSINESS

Additions to the Agenda:  – December meeting date change was added to New Business.

Minutes – A motion was made by Jim, supported by Jerry, to approve the minutes of the 10/8/19 Board of Supervisors’ Meeting.  All voted in favor and the motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report –The October Cash Balances were read and the bills were presented as follows: Costin Group – $1,250.00; Lake Country Power – $146.56; Premier Pyrotechnics – $8,500.00; CLVTB -$9,479.31; and Payroll – $775.59.   A motion was made by Jerry, supported by Jim, to approve the Treasurer’s Report as read and the payment of bills.  All voted in favor and the motion carried. 

The Clerk presented the correspondence.  The correspondence was received as read and will be placed on file and acted upon as required.

OLD BUSINESS

Costin Group Report:  There was no report. 

VNP-Visitor Center/Campsite: 

Committee Report: Jerry and Deena participated in a tele-conference on 10/9/19 discussing grant opportunities through the USFS.  Neither saw the advantage for Crane Lake, but will communicate with Gary Cerkvenik for his opinion.  Deena received a response from VNP Superintendent Bob DeGross confirming his support for the project and is support to finding innovative ways for the NPS to cover their potential operational and financial responsibilities.

Grounds Clean-up:  There was no report.

Docks:  There was no report. 

CIC Covenants/Unit 13:  The CIC/Covenants Committee consists of Jerry Pohlman, Butch Eggen and Deena Congdon.  Jerry reported that he had received a memo from Brian Lindsey of the Trenti Law Firm stating that the Township could eliminate covenants to the CIC and still retain the CIC.  A motion was made by Jim, supported by Jerry, to authorize Trenti to scale back the CIC covenants so the CIC is more in line with the Township’s needs.  All voted in favor and the motion carried.  The Committee will update the Shuck’s, as CIC members, on the current activities involving the CIC.

ATV Use:  Bruce Beste was not present to report.  Traci reported that construction will soon begin on the Crane Lake to Vermilion Falls trail.  There is a meeting tomorrow at the Echo Trail Tavern. 

Trails Report:  There was no report.

Land Use Project:  Because the community is so involved in developing the Visitor Center/Campground area, the development of the Land Exchange area will be addressed later on.

IRRRB Voyageur Statue Work:  Rob Scott provided an email stating that the statue project is on hold until spring.  Major land work is complete.  The restroom, flag poles, kiosk, canoe mounting, picnic tables/grills need to be completed and the goal is to have completion by opener. 

Scott’s Seaplane Base:  There was no report.

Credit Card for Township:  This item will be removed from the Agenda.

Town Board Supervisor Appointment:  A motion was made by Jerry, supported by Jim, to appoint Kara Knutson as a Supervisor to fill the vacancy on the Town Board.   All voted in favor and the motion carried.

NEW BUSINESS

December Meeting Date Change:  The December meeting date will be changed from Tuesday, December 10th to Thursday, December 12th to accommodate the Clerk’s required training on December 10th  for the March 3, 2020 Presidential Nomination Primary Election.

Other New Business:  There was none.  

Comments from Officers:  There were none. 

Public Comments:  Butch had the following comments:  Butch wished to express condolences on behalf of the community to the owners of the Voyageur Lodge at Kabetogama, which burned.  Butch also wanted to congratulate Kara on her appointment to the Board.  Butch also suggested that the Township look into the Aquatic Invasive Species issue for the community.  

Next Meeting:   Board of Supervisors’ Meeting –Thursday, December 12, 2019 – 5:30PM, Fellowship Hall

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:00PM.
