TOWN OF CRANELAKE

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS’ MEETING

October 14, 2014

 

The October 14, 2014 Board of Supervisors’ Meeting was called to order by Chairman Jerry Pohlman at 7:30PM at the Crane Lake Chapel Fellowship Hall with the Pledge of Allegiance recited by those in attendance including:  Supervisors Butch Eggen and Jerry Pohlman, Treasurer Shannon Bibeau, Clerk Jo Ann Pohlman, and one member of the community.

Supervisor Jim Janssen was absent.

 

 

BUSINESS

 

Additions to the Agenda:  St. Louis County Survey was added to New Business

 

Minutes – A motion was made by Butch, supported by Jerry, to approve the minutes of the 9/9/14 Board of Supervisors’ Meeting and the Public Meeting of 10/2/14.  All voted in favor and the motion carried.

 

Treasurer’s Report – Shannon read the September Cash Balances and presented the bills as follows:  Costin Group – $1,069.44; I.R.S. – $372.25; CLVTB – $16,236.00; CL Sustainable Land Corp. – $250.00; and Payroll – $531.38. A motion was made by Jerry, supported by Butch, to approve the Treasurer’s Report as read and the payment of bills. All voted in favor and the motion carried.

 

The Clerk presented the correspondence.  The correspondence was received as read and will be placed on file and acted upon as required.

 

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

Land Exchange/Community Property Project: Ruth L. Carlson provided the following report:  The Office of General Counsel for the Forest Service has received the closing paperwork and is working on it this week.  The completed work should be sent to Elisabeth Schleif, Realty Specialist, Superior National Forest, by the end of this week.  The closing day, time and place will then be set.  The closing is expected to be within the month of October.  A special thank you is given to Closing Specialist Deena Congdon for her diligence on pursuing the closing.

 

Jacque Eggen Memorial Fund:  There was no report this month.

 

Crane Lake Road Repair:  There was no report this month.

 

VNP-Visitor Center/Campsite:  Mike Ward was unable to attend the meeting as planned.

 

Frontier Internet:  There was no report this month.

 

Costin Group Report:  Gary Cerkvenik provided the following report:  Gary worked to get the land exchange moved up in the Forest Service process and now they have brought in a consultant to finish it and moved it to a high priority.  Second, he attended the Township Public Meeting on the VNP center in Crane Lake and awaits direction on the issue from the Board. VNP Visitor Center/Campsite – A Public Meeting was held on October 2, 2014 for the community to discuss various sites for the Visitor Center/Campsite being considered.  Minutes are on the Township website at www.cranelaketwp.com.

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

Revisit Speed Humps:  It was suggested by St. Louis County that the Township revisit the need for speed humps on the Gold Coast Road.  The Board suggested that interested parties could submit their thoughts to the Board.  Bruce Beste suggested that a slower speed be considered from Anderson’s to Gold Coast Road because of all the new properties along that corridor.

NEW BUSINESS (Cont.)

 

CLWSD Board Appointment:  A notice will be posted and published for a Manager position on the CLWSD Board to be filled by January 1, 2015.

 

St. Louis County Survey:  A survey link concerning community development was provided to the Township.  The survey may be completed by individuals, public officials, business owners, etc. and the Board encourages citizens to do so.  A written copy has been requested for the Township to address at the next meeting.  The link is:  http://www.stlouiscountymn.gov/LANDPROPERTY/CommunityDevelopment.aspx.

 

Other New Business:  There was none.

 

Comments from Officers:  Butch was sorry to hear of VNP Chief Ranger Chuck Remus’ loss of his daughter, Sarah.

 

Public Comments: Bruce Beste reminded the Board of the Public Meeting on October 2nd.  The Board responded that the meeting minutes were approved for that meeting earlier at this meeting. Bruce also asked about the communication with MAT legal counsel on conflict of interest as mentioned in correspondence.  Communications between the Board and legal counsel are not usually for publication.  The Board has been assured that there is no conflict of interest on the Board.  Bruce also mentioned that Tom Holt has been in communication with the National Forest on UTV use on the Vermilion Falls Road and will share that information
