BOARD OF SUPERVISORS’ MEETING
October 11, 2016
The October 11, 2016 Board of Supervisors’ Meeting was called to order by Vice-Chairman Jerry Pohlman at 7:31PM at the Crane Lake Chapel Fellowship Hall with the Pledge of Allegiance recited by those in attendance including: Supervisors Butch Eggen and Jerry Pohlman; Treasurer Traci Bak; Clerk Jo Ann Pohlman, and 2 members of the community.
BUSINESS
Additions to the Agenda: Election Judge Appointment was added to New Business
Minutes – A motion was made by Butch, supported by Jerry, to approve the minutes of the 9/13/16 Board of Supervisors’ Meeting. All voted in favor and the motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report –The September Cash Balances were read and the bills were presented as follows: Costin Group – $1,072.36; IRS – $510.54; Crane Lake Visitor & Tourism Bureau – $17,402.10; and Payroll – $554.21. A motion was made by Jerry, supported by Butch, to approve the Treasurer’s Report as read and the payment of bills. All voted in favor and the motion carried.
The Clerk presented the correspondence. The correspondence was received as read and will be placed on file and acted upon as required.
OLD BUSINESS
Land Exchange/Community Property Project: Ruth L. Carlson reported that she had contacted Connie Cummins regarding the correction of the deed. Connie informed Ruth that she would see why the correction was taking so long. On October 7, 2016 Ruth received a message from Realty Specialist Elizabeth Shleif of the USFS that she had received the signed corrected deed and that she would send it to Huck Andresen, the attorney representing the Town of Crane Lake. The correction is expected from Mr. Andresen soon.
Jacque Eggen Memorial Fund: There was nothing new to report.
Costin Group Report: There was no report.
VNP-Visitor Center/Campsite: Deena Congdon forwarded an email from VNP Acting Superintendent Bill Carlson with the latest numbers for visitation at the three visitor centers: Rainy Lake – 11,590, open year round; Kabetogama – 8,138, open May – Sept.; Ash River – 4,749, open June – Sept. 4 days per week.
Frontier Internet: There was no report.
ATV Use: Bruce Beste reported that the Voyageur Country ATV Club ribbon cutting event to celebrate road openings for ATV use was a success with approximately 200 people in attendance. Bruce wished to thank Crane Lake community members Gretchen Janssen and Bill Congdon for their hard work to help put on the event. He also thanked all that attended the event.
Trails Report: Deena reported that Tim Engrave responded to Dee Kuder’s comment on the Norway Trail as follows: One boardwalk on the Norway Trail was rebuilt two weeks ago and the segment to Trout Lake was cleared last week. They usually clear the Norway Trail one or two times per year. Because the trail is in the wilderness, it might not be cut open as wide as other trails. They feel they are maintaining the Norway Trail.
Crane Lake Comprehensive Plan: There was nothing new to report.
MN Dot Aeronautics: There was nothing new to report.

NEW BUSINESS
Election Judge Appointment: A motion was made by Butch, supported by Jerry, to approve the Clerk’s roster of those eligible for appointment to serve on the Election Board for the General Election on November 8, 2016. All voted in favor and the motion carried.
Other New Business: The Board discussed the St. Louis County Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Program. St. Louis County is the recipient of $721,320 County Program Aid grant funds for 2017 AIS prevention from the State of Minnesota. The Clerk will look into the program.
Comments from Officers: Jerry thanked Bruce for his efforts for the ATV ribbon cutting event. Butch supported the Handberg Marine request for a variance to enhance their business which will benefit the area businesses and visitors to Crane Lake.
Public Comments: Bruce Beste commented that the City of Orr is passing an ordinance to allow ATV use in the City.
Next Meeting: Board of Canvass Meeting, November 15, 2016, 7:30PM – Fellowship Hall
